Watch this: Return to Gold Hill

Remember the little boy from the old Hovis advert, struggling to push his bread-laden bicycle up a steep hill? Well, it's 2017 and he's back – aged 58 and a retired firefighter – and this time he makes it. All he needed was an electric bike.

It's a promo film but a cute one: 'Hovis Boy' Carl Barlow finally defeating the cobbled Gold Hill in Shaftesbury while sweaty cyclists look on.

According to Evans Cycles, e-bikes can get up to speeds of up to 15.5mph and seriously take the strain out of hilly rides – yet 75 per cent of UK commuters don't know what they are. If you charge them up using renewable energy sources they're also pretty environmentally friendly.
