Sportswear brand Sundried says its new technical T-shirt is fully biodegradable in just three years after its had its day in the sun.
The top (available in women's and men's fits; £30 each) is made from Eco Tech, which Sundried says 'is the only biodegradable polyamide yarn on the planet'. Other yarns can take centuries to decompose in landfill, but if the Eco Tech T-shirt heads there it will biodegrade in a fraction of the time.
The brand notes that the average person throws away around 70 pounds of used clothing every year, so this kind of technology could make a big difference.
"We live in a disposable society where it's too easy to buy cheap clothing, wear it once or never at all, and dispose of it without a second thought of where it will end up or the resources that were drained to make it," comments Sundried CEO and Founder Daniel Puddick.
"Sundried's new biodegradable T-shirt will help to change this dangerous linear economy which is not sustainable and help to promote a more circular economy. I want to leave the planet in a better state than how I found it and leave a sustainable legacy for my children so that they don't have to fear for the future."
The Eco Tech tee also has all the sweat-wicking and multi-way stretch properties you'd expect from technical sportswear, so it's good for running, cycling and more. Sundried expects its wearer to 'wear it for years to come and get plenty of use from it before disposing of it'.
