BBQ season? Go to Heck, vegans

Yorkshire's Heck has added a vegan option to its meaty fare, ahead of National BBQ Week (optimistically scheduled for May 30th to June 5th).

The vegan Super Greens balls (£3/255g) are made of quinoa, spinach, kale and ginger and are apparently pretty tasty with a beansprout and cashew nut salad, according to Heck. They're also soya, wheat and gluten-free.

Dietitian Vanessa Quarmby comments: "The spinach in Super Greens is a source of vitamin E and folate, and the quinoa provides calcium and iron."

The 'meatballs' will be available online and at selected Waitrose branches from April 25th, alongside new vegetarian products Nuts About Cheese sausages and Gourmet Goat's Cheese burgers.
