Guinness multi-packs go plastic-free

Multi-packs of Guinness will be packaged in 100 per cent sustainably sourced, recyclable and biodegradable cardboard, says the brand's owner Diageo.

Along with the black stuff, other Diageo beer brands such as Harp and Smithwick's will go plastic-free in can multi-packs, removing plastic ring carriers and shrink wrap estimated as the equivalent of 40 million 500ml plastic bottles.

Diageo adds that its individual cans are already fully recyclable, including the little widget you'll find inside cans of Draught Guinness – which, BTW, is now vegan after isinglass was removed from the filtration process.

You'll see the new cardboard beer packs will on shelves on the island of Ireland from August 2019 and from summer 2020 in Great Britain and elsewhere.
