Working with vegan chef and YouTube star Gaz Oakley, Wagamama has launched what it says is 'the world's first vegan egg'.
That's debatable but it does look like half a boiled egg, although it is not intended to taste like one – it's comprised of a coconut milk, cornflour and miso egg white and a Siracha mayo yolk. Rather, it's meant to complement the rest of vegan veggie bowl which it tops. Called The Avant-Gard'n, Gaz Oakley's concoction also features glazed BBQ seiten, edamame, king oyster mushrooms and sticky rice.
The restaurant chain's Executive Chef Steve Mangleshot says: "We've had increasing demand for vegan dishes from our customers over recent years and love to explore innovative methods of delivering these in new and exciting ways. Gaz's ethos and dedication to passion for creating flavour meant he was the perfect choice for our collab."
The Avant-Gard'n with vegan egg has launched at Wagamama's Cardiff restaurants (since Gaz Oakley is Welsh) and at its Noodle Lab restaurant in London, where the public's feedback will help decide whether it will be rolled out nationwide.
