Brits' perfect home is an 'eco-minimalist' two-storey detached house with a modest garden, according to a new survey.
The poll found that eco-friendly features appear on most of our wish lists. An average of 60 per cent of people would choose solar panels for their ideal home – and those most likely to use them live in Wales (70 per cent), the South West (68 per cent) and the North West (63 per cent).
Over half (51 per cent) would include rainwater harvesting systems (51 per cent) and 46 per cent would install eco-friendly lighting.
Nearly a fifth (18 per cent) of people would be happiest with a wildlife-friendly garden – compared to 24 per cent who want to keep it simple and 19 per cent who favoured a Mediterranean style – and the most popular location is a village (33 per cent).
Proximity to areas of natural beauty also pushed up demand for homes according to GoCompare Mortgages, which carried out the poll of 2,005 UK residents. Working with an architect from eye-kon, the financial comparison site has designed a CGI version of the UK's perfect property (pictured).
