Ecoffee Cup says it is supporting the Marine Conservation Society's Plastic Challenge throughout June, to help tackle plastic waste pollution.
A £1 donation from the sale price of every reusable, biodegradable bamboo-fibre coffee cup (from £7.95) purchased via the Ecoffee Cup website will be made to the MCS.
"The issue of packaging waste cannot be underestimated," says Ecoffee Cup Founder David McLagan. "We have seen positive steps being taken by supermarkets, coffee chains and consumer groups to help tackle the problems but these are, so far, having a small impact on overall awareness and on changing attitudes or behaviours.
"Whilst the discussions with politicians and high street coffee giants is likely to be a more long-term one, consumers, who are ever more aware of their role and responsibility to reduce waste, can start to make a difference today by choosing reusable and sustainable products."
The Plastic Challenge is calling on all of us to give up single-use plastic items this June – for the whole month or just a day – to reduce the amount of plastic litter in our oceans and beaches and to raise funds for the charity's work. There's a Plastic Challenge Pack available to download and a shop full of reusable, plastic-free items to buy.
