Gumtree is celebrating National Upcycling Day (June 24th) by taking a mobile upcycling workshop on the road.
With the help of celeb upcycler and TV presenter Max McMurdo, Gumtree has kitted out an old double-decker bus into an Upcycling Revolution workshop on wheels, ready to help people across the country rework their household items.
The bus will visit London on June 24th and 25th, Cardiff on June 27th, Manchester on June 29th and finish up in Glasgow on July 1st.
"Having spent a solid ten days upcycling an entire double decker bus into a workspace on wheels, I'm excited to get it on the road for Gumtree's Upcycle Revolution this year," says Max McMurdo – who you'll have seen wielding saws on Kirstie's Fill Your House for Free and George Clarke's Amazing Spaces.
"It will be a fantastic experience taking upcycling directly to people's doorsteps across the nation – whether they are passionate about making a difference to the environment, are looking for way to save or make money or just need a bit of creative inspiration, I'm eager to show just how simple it can be to create amazing things out of so-called 'junk'."
The Upcycling Revolution tour is in response to Gumtree's research that finds over 250,000 sofas, 150,000 coffee tables, 290,000 suitcases and 135,000 dining chairs get thrown away in the UK every month.
Forty per cent of British people say they have tried upcycling and a further 20 per cent upcycle on a regular basis. Bristol comes top of Gumtree's list of upcycling cities, where 29 per cent of citizens get involved.
However, 40 per cent of people who don't make over their stuff say they don't feel creative enough and a third don't know what to upcycle – hence Gumtree taking to the road to give advice and inspiration.
"I was pretty shocked to hear how many pieces of old furniture get thrown out every year – these are an upcycler's dream, says McMurdo.
"There are so many amazing and simple things you can create from something like an old coffee table."
