Do ethical shoppers dream of recycled beds? Yes, yes we do. And here it is: the Room in a Box bed, made from cardboard.
Already popular in Europe, the bed base is made from corrugated cardboard, 70 per cent of which is recycled and all of which can be recycled at the end of its life in the same way as a cardboard box. Thanks to its strong, supportive and light concertina design, air can circulate through it and it's mega-easy to transport – just fold it up – and to assemble, with no nuts or bolts anywhere.
The glue holding it all together is made from corn, wheat and potato-based sources so it's vegan too. You can choose from four finishes (classic cardboard, white, black and a gorgeous petrol blue) or you can get your brushes out and paint it whatever colour you want.
In the UK the Room in a Box bed is available exclusively from Happy Beds from £99.99 (you'll need to get a mattress separately). And hey, it'll look great with the ECO Duvet, made of 100 per cent recycled materials, launched last month.
