A duvet day is usually justifiable, but this makes one practically a necessity. The brand-new ECO Duvet is, we're told, the UK's first duvet made of 100 per cent recycled materials, is machine-washable and is available in Debenhams.
The innovation of The Fine Bedding Company, the duvet's filling is made from soft, light and fluffy micro-fine fibres manufactured from recycled plastic bottles, layered up to create warmth without too much weight. In each 10.5 tog double duvet you'll find 120 PET bottles.
The cover is 100 per cent recycled microfibre and it comes packaged in a recycled box, printed with water-based ink. The hypoallergenic, breathable duvets (from £45 for a single 10.5 tog) are made in The Fine Bedding Company's Eco Factory, powered by renewable energy, and has a carbon footprint up to 44 per cent smaller than a standard polyester duvet, says the brand.
"ECO Duvet is a major step forward for the filled bedding industry – in fact we believe this is the first truly 100 per cent recycled duvet, and a pillow is soon to follow," says Claire Watkin from The Fine Bedding Company.
"Consumers can now genuinely opt for an environmentally-friendly product that feels and performs as well as any less sustainable products on the market."
