Wildflowers are bloomin' everywhere at the moment – or at least they will be, when spring arrives. And at the University of York there's a huge new wildflower meadow about to burst into life.

Covering over 1,800 square metres, the floral turf features over 50 different native and naturalised species. It was installed next to the lake at the university's new Piazza Learning Centre and could help the project qualify for an 'Excellent' standard in the BREEAM sustainability ratings, according to Wildflower Turf, the people who installed it.

If that wasn't enough, DYK the University of York has a Duck of the Day website, documenting all the waterbird action on campus?

If you want to turn an urban or unloved space into a wildflower garden, applications are now open to receive free seed kits from Grow Wild.
