A 100 per cent tree-free and FSC-certified toilet roll will soon be available following a successful crowdfunding campaign.
Essex-based brand The Cheeky Panda produces its three-ply loo roll from bamboo, a grass that can be harvested every year – unlike trees, which can take 30 years to mature. Bamboo paper is also very absorbent and anti-bacterial.
The Cheeky Panda claims that no other tissue product currently on the UK market is 100 per cent FSC certified, with most brands either FSC Mix or FSC recycled. Recycled paper may have de-inking chemicals hidden in them.
Following an overfunded Crowdfunder campaign the toilet paper will be officially launched to coincide with Earth Day (April 22nd) and will be available in the summer, followed by other products such as kitchen towels and napkins.
UPDATE! The Cheeky Panda toilet roll (£2.99/four-pack and £4.99/nine-pack) is now available from Ethical Superstore.
