The Dog Treat Co, normally a purveyor of meat pet snacks, has gone vegan for a new treat. And, TBH, it sounds delicious.
The Coconut + Chia + Turmeric dog treat – hand-baked in Devon – has been developed following consumer demand.
"Our Coconut + Chia + Turmeric treat was a positive response to a significant strand of our loyalist following who wondered if we'd consider adding a top notch vegan variant to our wider offer, a treat that specifically targeted hounds with delicate tummies and meat/protein-based allergies," says The Dog Treat Co's Founder, Joe Halliwell.
The brand is keen to point out that dogs are carnivores, but veggie treats can add valuable nutrients to their diet. The turmeric, for example, boasts anti-inflammatory properties, while The Dog Treat Co's treats also provide the antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal benefits of lauric acid and immunity-boosting fatty acids.
A lot of pet food also contains stuff like 'masking salts and sugars, low-grade meats and health-affecting cheap fillers', says the brand, so probably best avoided.
