The excellent people at Sustrans have put together two new guidebooks, helping cyclists to enjoy one-day rides in spectacular scenery.
Each featuring 75 circular routes of between ten and 45 miles, the new books – Sustrans' Circular Day Rides North and Sustrans' Circular Day Rides South (£14.99 each) – are the perfect way to prepare for a new year of cycling.
"It might be cold and dark outside but winter is the perfect time to start planning spring and summer cycle rides, and our new guides are perfect to help you on your way," says Sarah Breaux, Retail Officer at Sustrans and writer of the guidebooks.
Covering northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland (the North edition), and southern England, the Midlands and Wales (South), each of the 150 rides follow National Cycle Network paths, byways and quiet lanes and most start and finish at a railway station. Together, two two books cover the whole of the UK, 'from Loch Katrine in Scotland to the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland, the Norfolk Coastline in England and medieval castles in Wales.'
As the UK's premier charity for cycling and walking, Sustrans is really in the know here: the spiral-bound books, designed for intermediate and experienced cyclists, feature a map, a route profile and directions for each ride, places you might want to stop for a drink or bite to eat, plus nearby bike shops. You can even download GPX navigation files.
