Burger King has announced it intends to use biodegradable drinking straws from September and, in 70 branches, only provide straws and cup lids to customers who request them from July.
The burger chain also has a 'vision' for 'all packaging in 500 UK stores to be recyclable, biodegradable or compostable by 2025'. Its plastic usage will decrease 29 metric tonnes as a result, it says.
The news was announced via an infographic on Twitter (above) on World Oceans Day, when there was a fair bit of pressure on packaging-heavy businesses like fast food brands to take action on plastic. McDonald's is phasing out plastic straws too, it has announced.
