Seeing clearly: Boots and Acuvue launch contact lens recycling

Acuvue contact lenses and packaging

You can now recycle your used contact lenses and all their packaging thanks to a new, free scheme launched by Boots, big brand Acuvue and recycling extraordinaire TerraCycle.

Gather up your soft contact lenses, blister packs and foil covers and take them to over 700 collection points, housed in branches of Boots Opticians across the UK. Alternatively, you can download a free shipping label from the Acuvue website and send them off to be recycled. Easy pops.

Even better is that the service will accept contact lens products from all brands, not just Acuvue, and you can collect TerraCycle Points that can be redeemed for charity donations.

Boots tweeted that over 725 million contact lenses are thrown away in the UK every year, so these little blighters add up.
