#SquareMileChallenge tackles City of London's coffee cup addiction

Hubbub #SquareMileChallenge cup bin

Have you seen the giant yellow cups in London? Or even heard little voices coming from discarded cups on the pavement?

It might be caffeine hallucinations, or it could be Hubbub's #SquareMileChallenge campaign, now running in the City of London.

The campaign seeks to collect and recycle half a million coffee cups in April and 5 million throughout 2017, to help get to grips with the UK's addiction to java and, specifically, the cups it comes in. We get through 7 million of them EVERY DAY – 2.5 billion each year – and less than one per cent of those gets recycled.

Here's a funny (and maybe a little creepy) video from Hubbub introducing #SquareMileChallenge.

There are over 100 places where you can recycle your coffee cup, of any kind, in London right now. Here's a map to give you a hand.
