Watch this: Drowning in Plastic

Drowning in Plastic's Liz Bonnin with walruses

Drowning in Plastic won't be comfortable viewing, but it's essential. This 90-minute documentary sees wildlife biologist Liz Bonnin travel from Australia to America to Indonesia to the Solomon Islands to see the effect of plastic waste in our oceans and rivers – how it is choking our whole planet.

The BBC programme picks up where Blue Planet II left off, exploring plastic's impact on coral reefs and its very direct effect on seabirds, seal pups and fish.

However, it also seeks to find solutions, with Liz Bonnin meeting inventors, entrepreneurs and environmental campaigners working to turn the tide on plastic.

Catch Drowning in Plastic at 8.30pm tonight on BBC1 and on iPlayer afterwards. Here's the trailer.
