All aboard electric double-decker buses in York

City of York Council electric bus

From this week you'll see a fully electric double-decker bus in York, in the first trial outside London.

With zero emissions, capacity for 99 passengers and a range of nearly 150 miles from one overnight charge, the Metrodecker EV is part of York's plan to make its Park and Ride scheme 'one of the most sustainable and efficient in the country'.

Optare, manufacturer of the Metrodecker EV, says it expects the bus's range to rise to 200 miles on a single charge within a year.

It looks pretty much the same as a normal bus, but without the nasty fumes – the idea is to improve the air quality in the city.
