Vjosa river from Blue Heart

How much do you know about hydropower? In the UK we don't see a lot of it but in the Balkan Peninsula it's a major issue: the largest undammed river in Europe could soon be home to over 3,000 hydropower dams and diversions.

Hydropower is a renewable energy source but its environmental and social impact can be catastrophic. A new documentary, released by outdoor clothing brand Patagonia, follows the work of activists fighting for Albania's Vjosa river, its drinking water and its wildlife.

Called Blue Heart, the film is currently on release around the world including in London (Crate Brewery, £5) and Manchester (Patagonia store, free) on Wednesday May 2nd. You could also host your own screening of this hard-hitting and heartbreaking doc.

Here's the trailer.
